Minefield Cyanotypes

While at the Korean DMZ in the summer of 2025 I created some cyanotypes. I had never used the medium before, but I thought the directness of the photographic process (a sensitized piece of paper is exposed to sunlight with objects against the surface), would work well with my conceptual approach. Indeed, each image is a measure of time spent at the edge of a minefield. Unexposed sheets were pushed onto the barbs of the barbed wire fencing for 20-35 minutes until the exposure was complete.

I have placed the cyanotypes side-by-side in a set of four to create a fence line. The triangle shape is the ‘shadow’ of the landmine warning sign.
